MFT Energy builds on its Asia-Pacific business with the establishment of an Australian office, located in Noosa on the country’s east coast. In this article, Ryan Thomsen, Director MFT Energy explains why he decided to join a Danish company and why Australia is the place to be.
Meet Ryan Thomsen, Director MFT Energy, Australia
I have been working in the Australian energy industry since 2002 with trading experience at both a Financial Institution and a Hedge Fund.
Early on, MFT Energy stood out with its impressive growth journey and with its people base – the company has managed to attract some of the most talented people in the industry. I followed MFT Energy from the sideline and was fascinated with the vibe of the company and the mission that all employees can work towards partnership.
Once MFT Energy started to plan for an Australian office, I saw this as a great opportunity for me to work with inspiring people and to build up the Australian business by leveraging the company’s European experience. It’s a win-win; I contribute with Australian market expertise and at the same time get to be part of an entrepreneurial and highly ambitious company.
All Eyes on Renewables Down Under
The Australian energy market is open for trades with access to exchanges and besides the size and volatility of the market, the country is looking into transitioning towards renewables which is something MFT Energy wants to contribute to.
Over the coming years, Australia will be a large player in managing renewable assets and my ambition is to have the best performing Australian team facilitating these green assets bringing renewable energy to the markets. For now, we have our eyes locked on Australia, but broader expansion within the region is within our sights.
Talent Beats Geography
Australia is about as far away from Denmark as you can get; however, overcoming challenging time zones, cultural differences, and physical distance is in line with the company’s underlying philosophy that talent beats geography and although we are in another part of the world, my team has felt included from day one. The Australian office will be visited by our CEO and the Head of APAC in the coming months, but I would like to see more MFT colleagues visit over the next 12 months.
MFT Energy has a professional approach towards the subsidiaries, the working environment is respectful and all about togetherness as opposed to silos. This is quite unique and something I have not encountered before in the energy business.
With the opening of an Australian office, MFT Energy remains on track with its growth strategy and ambition to IPO in 2023, and I look forward to continuing to learn and excel in collaboration with my talented colleagues across the globe taking MFT Energy to the next level.
MFT Energy has several international offices and trades across many borders. Our partner model enables talented people to become engaged business owners and creates a dynamic, enjoyable, and profitable work environment for everybody.
