2025 was a year of major strategic investments for MFT Energy, further diversifying the business and reinforcing the foundation for future growth. The company strengthened its technology, expanded into new business areas, and grew its global presence during a year characterized by heightened geopolitical uncertainty and lower volatility in terms of fundamentals.
As the first full year of the company’s three-year strategy, Envision ’28, 2025 was a year of execution. MFT Energy strengthened capabilities across the business and took important steps to support long-term growth.
“2025 was a year where we kept building. We strengthened important areas of our business, expanded our capabilities, and took meaningful strategic steps. That leaves us with a stronger foundation and puts us in a better position to make the most of opportunities going forward,” says Bo Palmgren, CEO of MFT Energy.
Strengthened technology and new business areas
A key priority in 2025 was the ongoing development of MFT Energy’s technology platform and trading setup, including further advancements in automated and algorithmic trading. The company also signed an agreement to acquire a majority stake in Northium Energy, a Danish Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) developer, marking an important strategic step into physical assets.
“We are investing in capabilities that matter for the future of energy trading. That includes technology, automation, and battery storage. These investments strengthen our competitive position and open new options for the business,” says Bo Palmgren.
Global expansion, green certificates, and a stronger organization
MFT Energy also continued to strengthen its international setup in 2025, particularly in North America and Asia-Pacific. Within green certificates, the company strengthened its position across both gas and power, while continuing to build capabilities in an area that remains strategically important for MFT Energy.
“We are continuing to build the business in areas that are important for the future. That includes strengthening our international setup and expanding our capabilities within green certificates, where we see good long-term potential,” says Bo Palmgren.
During the year, MFT Energy also strengthened the organization by welcoming new employees and partners, expanding the Executive Leadership team, and adding new members to the Board of Directors, including former Sydbank CEO Karen Frøsig. In February 2026, the company further strengthened its leadership with the addition of John Pettersson as VP, Gas Trading.
Strong confidence in the future despite a lower result
MFT Energy looks back on a year where markets were calmer in terms of fundamentals, while becoming more unpredictable in terms of geopolitics. Both power and gas markets experienced relatively low volatility, while geopolitical uncertainty made market movements less fundamental and harder to analyze and predict. This resulted in fewer attractive trading opportunities across markets and mandates.
Against that backdrop, MFT Energy realized a net trading income (gross profit) of EUR 37,713m and an EBIT of EUR 2,766m. The result did not meet the company’s long-term ambitions, but MFT Energy continued to invest in and build on its capabilities throughout the year, in line with its Envision ’28 strategy. 2025 was a year of seeding rather than harvesting, and the decisions made during the year left the company better positioned for the opportunities ahead.
“I am proud of our people and the momentum we have built around our Envision ’28 strategy. The need for trading in global energy markets has never been greater, and I am very optimistic about MFT Energy’s future and the role we will play in the years ahead,” says Bo Palmgren, CEO.
